Abstract...
Can an artist go beyond the confines of time and space via cyberspace?
The world is at our fingertips. We enter a keyword in the search engine of choice and an abundance of images and texts floods our screens. The impact this has on our minds and our sense of aesthetics is phenomenal. The twentieth century impact of media, movies and international news has changed and evolved the way people view themselves, their culture, communities and art. This evolution has reached epidemic proportions in the twenty-first century with the increased contact and availability of information and ideas presented via the Internet.
The answer to the question...Yes!
Having a web presence, as an artist is a great way to establish an aesthetic without having to lug hundreds of pounds of canvas, frames, bronze and computer parts to the local gallery. It's also a great way to introduce your art to a global audience crossing geographic boundaries and time zones. This isn't the local coffee shop where a handful of people might see your work and could potentially spill a cup or two of "house blend" on your hard work.
DandyLion Art started as a class project with a goal to be a resource for graduating students to expand their presence in the art community. Since its inception in September 2005, artists' interest in exhibiting has grown tremendously. The goal to create a distinctive online environment that offers artists and other creative individuals a conduit for their creations while providing viewers an aesthetic experience proves to be a worthy cause.
